How the ring works

The inner ring is Hanahan, Goose Creek and North Charleston. They share borders with the city, so a plumber can reach most addresses quickly. Ladson is the next step out along the I-26 corridor.

Summerville is the outer edge of the realistic ring, at about 15 miles. We still serve it, but the earliest appointment may be later than for a Hanahan address. Say where you are and we will give you the honest answer.

Which utility serves your street

The City of Hanahan lists Charleston Water System for water at (843) 727-6800 and Berkeley County Sanitation for sewer issues at (843) 572-4400. Outside the city, the provider depends on the street, so confirm yours before you dig or pay for a repair that belongs to the utility.

We are glad to tell you which side of the meter a problem sits on. If the break is in the street, the utility owns it. If it is on your side, we repair it.

Other places on request

Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant and the rest of the Charleston area sit beyond our regular ring. If you are there with an urgent problem, call and ask. We will say plainly whether we can reach you or whether a closer plumber is the better choice.

What each town brings to the dispatch map

Goose Creek is the largest city in Berkeley County, with 45,946 residents at the 2020 census. Its ZIP is 29445, and its eastern edge reaches the Cooper River. The city grew 23.0 percent between 2010 and 2020, so newer construction is common, and the border with Hanahan is only a few minutes from our office.

North Charleston uses several ZIP codes, including 29405, 29406, 29418 and 29420. Park Circle, planned in 1912, holds some very old houses, while newer subdivisions farther out are far younger. That spread of ages means two North Charleston calls can need very different approaches.

Ladson sits along I-26 at exit 203 with US-78 running beside it, and it spans parts of three counties. Because of that, the utility serving a given street varies, and we ask before we advise on who owns a line.

Summerville is the outer edge of the ring. Its water comes from Lake Moultrie through the Commissioners of Public Works of the Town of Summerville, and it is very soft at around 25 parts per million of hardness.

ZIP codes we answer calls from

Our own ZIP is 29410, which covers Hanahan. Calls also come in from nearby ZIP codes including 29445 in Goose Creek, 29405, 29406, 29418 and 29420 in North Charleston, 29456 in Ladson, and 29483, 29485 and 29486 in Summerville.

A ZIP code is only a rough guide. Some streets sit across a boundary or inside a different utility district than the ZIP suggests, so give the dispatcher your street address and we will confirm.

What affects how soon a plumber can reach you

None of these is a promise, but they explain the estimate you get on the call.

  • How many urgent calls are ahead of yours at that hour
  • Distance from the Remount Road office to your address
  • Traffic on Rivers Avenue, I-26 and US-78
  • Weather, especially during heavy rain and storm events
  • Whether you have already shut off the water and cleared access to the problem
